Lead Poisoning Facts:
- Lead is found in paint, soil, dust, old water pipes and other sources.
- Repainting, remodeling or renovating old homes (pre-1978) with lead paint can cause lead dust to gather and spread.
- Children ages 6 months to 6 years are at an increased risk for lead poisoning.
- A pregnant woman with lead in her body can pass it to her baby.
- Lead can poison the body. It can cause permanent damage to the brain and other organs.
- Children and adults can swallow or breathe in lead without even knowing it.
